Abstract

Background: Since universities are the center for knowledge, science and learning and ensure the future of the country, maintaining moral and social health and obeying the Islamic and student affairs in this holy place is of a high importance. The aim of this study was exploring the concept of Islamic affairs from the perspective of students in Golestan University of medical sciences in 2010.

Methods: 50 nursing and midwifery students in Golestan University of medical Sciences participated in this qualitative study. Data was collected through group and individual semi-structured interviews. All the participants were asked to express their views about the students’ affairs.  Deeper questions were also used to obtain students’ ideas on the topic.  The interviews were recorded, handwritten and analyzed using content analysis approach.

Results: The main theme of this study “student’s affairs” comes from a broader  theme "Islamic affairs” and its sub-themes include “respecting the campus atmosphere”, “having  Islamic Hijab”, “respectful behavior and speech”, “appropriate interaction with professor and classmate”, “Compliance with rules and norms of society”, “doing the students’ tasks”, “being concerned about acquisition of knowledge”, “proper interaction between girls and boys”, “and observance of the Islamic rules”.

Conclusions: University is a place for edification, education and training and the students studying there should observe the Islamic rules. This study showed that observing students affairs is equal o observing Islamic affairs. A student, who observes the student affairs, is unconsciously observes the Islamic affairs too.
