زمینه و هدف: تنهایی یک تجربه معمول در افراد مبتلا به بیماری مولتیپل اسکلروزیس (MS) است که با پیامدهای روانشناختی قابل توجهی ارتباط دارد، بر همین اساس بررسی وضعیت روانی- اجتماعی این افراد، امر مهمی است. هدف از پژوهش حاضر تعیین نقش میانجی احساس تنهایی اجتماعی در رابطه بین خودشفقتی و بهزیستی روانشناختی در بیماران مبتلا به MS بود.
روش کار: در این مطالعه توصیفی همبستگی، 220 نفر از بیماران مبتلا به ام ‌اس به روش نمونه‌ گیری در دسترس انتخاب شدند. جهت گردآوری داده‌ها از پرسشنامه بهزیستی روان شناختی ریف فرم کوتاه (PWBS)، مقیاس شفقت به خود (SCS) و مقیاس تنهایی اجتماعی (SLS) استفاده شد. داده‌ها به روش همبستگی پیرسون و معادلات ساختاری با استفاده از نرم افزارهای SPSS-23 و AMOS-24 مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار گرفت.
یافته­ ها: نتایج نشان داد که خودشفقتی، همبستگی مثبت معنادار با بهزیستی روان‌شناختی (0/66r=، 0/01>p) و همبستگی منفی معنادار با احساس تنهایی اجتماعی (0/63r=، 0/01>p)داشت. همچنین بین احساس تنهایی اجتماعی با بهزیستی روان‌شناختی (0/69r=، 0/01>p) ارتباط معناداری مشاهده شد. اثر غیرمستقیم و اثر کل خودشفقتی بر بهزیستی روان‌شناختی به ترتیب 0/26 و 0/86 و به لحاظ آماری معنادار بود (0/01>p).
نتیجه­ گیری: نتایج نشان داد که احساس تنهایی اجتماعی در ارتباط بین خودشفقتی و بهزیستی روانشناختی، نقش واسطه ای دارد. بنابراین می توان از طریق ارتقای روابط اجتماعی تا حدودی سبب بهبود بهزیستی روانشناختی در افراد مبتلا به مولتیپل اسکلروزیس شد.
