Abstract: (32 Views)
Background: People with multiple sclerosis (MS) face numerous social and psychological problems that reduce their life expectancy. The present study aimed to investigate the role of ego strength and attachment style to God in predicting life expectancy of patients with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: This was a descriptive-correlational study. The study population included patients with multiple sclerosis who were members of the Mazandaran Province Multiple Sclerosis Association in 2024. Among them 305 people were selected through convenience sampling. Data collection tools included the Schneider et al. (1991) life expectancy questionnaire, Rawat and Kirkpatrick's attachment style to God questionnaire (2002), and Besharat's ego strength questionnaire (2007). Data analysis was performed using SPSS-26 software using Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise regression tests.
Results: The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between ego strength and attachment style to God and life expectancy of multiple sclerosis patients. Also, psychological strength, with an effect coefficient of 0.652, had the highest contribution in predicting life expectancy.
Conclusion: It can be said that life expectancy can be predicted among people with multiple sclerosis based on ego strength and attachment style to God. Therefore, psychotherapists are advised to consider the role of psychological characteristics, especially ego strength and attachment style to God, in order to improve the quality of life and increase life expectancy in people with multiple sclerosis.
