Background & aim: Nurses play an important role in providing quality care for patients. Employees with higher job satisfaction and a better quality of work life are more productive and efficient. This study was conducted with the aim of comparing the quality of work life and job satisfaction of nurses working in corona and other wards.
Methods: This study was descriptive and analytical. The number of 150 people was selected through convenience sampling among the nurses working in the corona ward, and 150 people were selected through simple random sampling from other wards of the medical training centers in Ardabil city. Data collection instruments included the Brooks and Anderson Quality of Nursing Work Life Questionnaire, the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), and the demographic characteristics sheet. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (number, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (t-test and analysis of variance) using SPSS software version 22.
Results: The mean score of nurses for the quality of work life in the other wards was 136.42±17.17 and in corona wards was 133.92±13.70 (p<0.05). Furthermore, the mean score of the job satisfaction in the corona and normal wards were 43.21±6.37 and 45.16±6.43, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the job satisfaction level of nurses working in corona and other wards (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed that the level of job satisfaction of nurses in corona wards was lower than that of nurses in other wards. Implementing interventions that consider the influential variables such as work experience, overtime hours, income, and the number of night shifts can be effective in improving and increasing the job satisfaction of nurses working in corona wards
