Abstract: (109 Views)
Background: Childhood traumas and attachment styles are among the factors influencing couples' propensity towards divorce. The present study aimed to investigate the structural equation model of the tendency to divorce based on attachment styles and childhood trauma mediated by perfectionism.
Methods: This study was a descriptive-correlational and structural equation modeling study. The study population consisted of all couples seeking divorce in Kermanshah city, from which 4oo people (200 couples) who had been referred to counseling centers in this city in the first half of 2024 were selected using a random cluster sampling method. Data was collected using the Collins and Read attachment style (1990), Ghaderzadeh et al.'s tendency to divorce (2013), Hill et al.'s perfectionism inventory (2004), and Bernstein et al.'s childhood trauma (2003) questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling using SPSS-28 and SmartPLS3 software.
Results: The results showed that there is a direct and significant relationship between attachment styles, childhood trauma, and perfectionism with the tendency to divorce (p≤0.01). Furthermore, perfectionism has a mediating role between childhood traumas and attachment styles with the tendency to divorce (p≤0.01).
Conclusion: It can be said that insecure attachment styles and childhood traumas increase the tendency towards divorce, and negative perfectionism intensifies this relationship. Therefore, all psychotherapists are advised to encourage couples to use problem-solving strategies instead of running away from problems by improving a realistic attitude instead of negative perfectionism, so that we can witness a reduction in social harms in the country.
