Background & objectives: The thesis is an original research on important matter, which leads to the development of nursing science. With regard to this point that, the evaluation of any program in stage of implementation is essential to promote and find their strengths and weaknesses as well as performing it, the aim of this study was to review the PhD thesis and compare it to the Britain thesis.�
Methods: This descriptive-comparative method is called George Brady. By this method, current status of doctoral dissertations in all medical universities in Iran were investigated, following the same position in the UK top 10 in 2013 were conducted, then, The similarities and differences in the context of these programs was compared, and finally according to this for improving a PhD dissertation in Iran, the recommendations presented.
Results: In Medical Sciences Universities in both countries, there were mandatory units such as qualitative and quantitative research methods to pass before obtaining a thesis, determine the time for the process, get document shall be subject to written and oral presentations, and publication of the thesis. PhD dissertation in University of Medical Sciences in Iran, mostly in the form of qualitative research and few researches are mixed, whereas, in most British Medical Sciences Universities, this project is a quantitative research that is relevant to clinical work.
Conclusion: In this study, it was found that a doctoral dissertation in the field of nursing in the UK often performed in clinical issues and in Iran qualitative research was often performed. If nursing doctoral dissertation in the operational research goes ahead, it could solve the problems of the nursing community and promote the discipline of nursing and could help to solve the problems of the Iranian nursing community and improve and promote the discipline of nursing.
